Out of the Closet

Okay, I'm coming out of the closet. I have a confession to make.

I have forced Hubby to share this walk-in closet with me for the past year...

(180 degree view from left to right)

Is that ridiculous or what???

I know, I know. I should be ashamed.

Now, don't go criticizing. Just because I'm not "neat" doesn't mean I'm not "organized." I always have stuff strewn all over the place but I know where everything is. So do many other entrepreneurs, salespeople, and creative people. A lot of us are the "out of sight, out of mind" type of people. That's why I like to have little organized piles all over the house.

I decided I would just dive in and start dragging it out into the bathroom & bedroom (on the bed, floors, etc.). I figured this would force me to go through it all before my parents come in town this weekend.

So, I took a trip to Garden Ridge for the baskets and a second dirty clothes hamper. I like to separate my colors from my whites for quicker washing.

And here are the results:

Okay, so I know it's not color coordinated or anything like that but I'm just too busy trying to sell fabric and design paper products to worry with all of that. Hubby's just glad you can actually see the floors and walk-in the closet!

Lastly, what should I do with all of this stuff? The majority of it is NOT junk. It's either too small to wear or not "In Style".

Should I have a yard sale? I've never personally had one but my experience with them is that people expect you to just give it away. If that's the case, I would just as soon donate it to GoodWill.

Do any of you have any experience of selling on E-bay? I've bought on there plenty of times but I've never sold anything. Any tips or suggestions?

this is right up my alley!
Last year I sold my little girl's clothes and made $400. Now, brands matter of course. All you need is a digital camera, good lighting and an appealing sales pitch (in which you have) The rest is self explanatory.. Oh and open up a paypal account. I accept paypal only but that is up to you. Hope this helps! angela in leland, ms

p.s you may want to weigh the actual package to give customers an idea of the shipping costs too.

DO NOT under any circumstance have a yard sale. I had one and it was hands down one of the worst experiences of my life. If you have electronics or furniture, it might be worth it, but if it's just clothes don't waste your time. These yard sale people expect you to sell clothes for like a quarter or a dime.

ok, so...a really crazy question. You and I don't know each other, but I love reading your blog because you are always so entertaining:), and I love your paper company! Anyway, so I clicked to it today and noticed something that interested me. My husband and I are building home and I'm trying to decide whether I'd like carpet or tile in the master closet. Is that tile I see in yours? Do you like it? The particular closet in question is going to be directly off the master bath which is tiled. What do you think?
Thanks for your help.

YEA for posting those pictures!! I need a HUGE clost cleaning myself. And, I love that you mentioned Garden Ridge.. LOVE that store! It is just waaaay out of the way when I visit Memphis to go often.

I have sold on ebay on and off for the last 7 years. I would only recommend selling brand names. And make sure you put it in the title. The fees can be hefty.. and it is time comsuming with pictures, editing, listing, shipping, etc.. I would only do name brands and donate the rest! That is what I do personally :o)

Just my two cents :o)

And thank you for the Book Mooch link!! Have you tried it yet?

just wanted to let you know.

oh - and angela who posted above...she is a friend of mine.

i wouldn't have a garage sale. i would either do ebay or a consignment store.

hey a good tip I learned, buy the printable business cards at office depot. print labels for your baskets on them, laminate and buy the small velcro dots. put dot on basket and then of back of your laminated card and every thing is labeled and you can change it whenever you want. works good for me. hey check my blog , you won starbucks. send me your address.

I am SO impressed! I hope to someday have a really nice closet. My walk in is also storage, so it is organized chaos. Keep at it!

WOW it looks wonderful. I would like to take a number in line for you to help me out with it. We have two walk ins and Jerrame still has to keep his in the extra bedroom.

Wow... You did do good. Want to come to my house? Ebay is okay to sell, but a PAIN.

This is crazy, but I need to know how to Link a word or phrase on my blog. I also want to link something to when you click on EMAIL ME on our blog, someone can directly email me from there. Do you know how to do that too? :)

You said: "What should I do with all of this stuff?"
My Reply: "Why, send it right over to me, of course! If your wedding dress and your header photo are any indication, you have a great sense of style!"

But *really*, all joking aside, I think yard sales are usually not worth it so I would pick your favorite charity and give, give, give all that stuff away.
